Good brow lamination aftercare helps the brows stay neat, comfortable and easier to style while the treatment grows out. It does not need to be complicated, but clients do need clear instructions and realistic expectations.
A brow lamination changes the direction and behaviour of the natural brow hairs. It does not glue them permanently into one position. You will still need to brush and style them after the initial aftercare period.
The first 24 hours after brow lamination
Follow the instructions given by your brow professional for the exact system used. Many professional systems recommend keeping the brows dry and avoiding steam, heavy sweating, excessive heat, makeup and skincare directly on the area for the first 24 hours.
Do not rub, scratch or press the brows into the pillow. Treat them gently and allow the service to settle.
I know clients sometimes worry about doing one tiny thing wrong. There is no need to panic. The aim is simply to avoid unnecessary moisture, heat and friction during that first day.
What happens after the first wash?
The brows may look softer after they are washed for the first time. This is normal.
The salon finish often includes conditioning and styling products that add shine, separation and hold. Once those products are cleansed away, the brow hairs can look less glossy or fluffy.
This does not mean the lamination has disappeared. The hairs should still be more flexible and easier to brush into position.
How to care for laminated brows every day
Cleanse them gently
Once the initial aftercare period has passed, cleanse the brows as part of your normal routine. Product buildup is not aftercare. Use gentle pressure and avoid aggressive rubbing.
Brush them into shape
Use a clean spoolie to direct the hairs into the shape you like. They do not have to stand straight upwards. A softer, more natural direction often suits the face better and is easier to maintain.
Condition the brow hair
Brow lamination is a chemical service, so suitable conditioning care can be helpful. Use a product recommended by your brow professional and follow its instructions.
More product is not automatically better. A small, controlled amount is usually all that is needed.
Be sensible with exfoliation
Strong exfoliating products and active skincare used directly over the brow area may affect the skin and the appearance of any tint that was added. Follow the guidance from your skincare and brow professionals.
What should you avoid?
- Rubbing or pulling at the brow hairs.
- Brushing aggressively when the hairs are wet.
- Using unsuitable products simply because they are trending online.
- Repeating the lamination before the brow hair is ready.
- Ignoring dryness, frizz or signs of breakage.
Do laminated brows need styling?
Yes. Brow lamination makes the hairs easier to move and position, but it is not permanent brow gel.
A quick brush each morning can recreate the shape. Some clients may also choose a suitable brow styling product once the initial aftercare period has passed.
This is one of the most important expectations to explain during consultation. Clients should not be sent home believing their brows will remain frozen in the salon finish for six weeks.
How long should brow lamination last?
Most brow lamination results remain visible for around four to six weeks. The finish gradually softens as treated hairs shed and new untreated hairs grow through.
You can read my detailed guide on how long brow lamination lasts.
When should you book again?
Around six weeks may be a sensible assessment point for many clients, but it is not an automatic instruction to repeat the service.
The professional should check how much of the previous lamination remains and assess the condition of the hair. If the brows feel dry, frizzy or fragile, they may need more time and conditioning care.
There is no prize for laminating early. Healthy brow hair always comes first.
Brow lamination aftercare questions
Can I wash my face after brow lamination?
Yes, but follow the initial aftercare instructions from your professional and avoid soaking or rubbing the brow area during that period.
Can I use brow makeup?
Once the initial aftercare period has passed, brow makeup can normally be used. Remove it gently at the end of the day.
Why do my brows look messy in the morning?
The hairs can move while you sleep. Brush them back into shape with a clean spoolie. Lamination makes them easier to style, not permanently fixed.
What if the hairs feel dry or frizzy?
Stop using unnecessary styling products and contact the professional who performed the treatment. Do not book another lamination until the hair has been assessed.
