Most professional lash lift and tint appointments take around 60 to 75 minutes. Some treatments are completed a little sooner and others take longer. The natural lashes, the system being used, the shield choice and the time needed for careful placement all make a difference.
I never believe a lash lift should be rushed simply to fit an unrealistic appointment time. A beautiful result comes from assessing the lashes properly and making sensible decisions throughout the service.
What happens during a lash lift and tint appointment?
A lash lift and tint is more than applying two solutions and hoping for the best. The appointment normally includes a consultation, preparation, shield selection, lash placement, processing, tinting and finishing care.
Consultation and lash assessment
Your lash professional should look at the length, strength, density and natural direction of the lashes before beginning. They should also ask about previous treatments, sensitivities and the result you would like.
This first step matters. A client with fine lashes may need a different approach from someone with strong, downward growing lashes. The goal is not to produce the same curl on every person. It is to create a lift that suits the eye while respecting the natural lash.
Preparation and shield choice
The lashes are cleansed so that makeup, skincare and surface oils do not interfere with the service. A shield is then selected to create the chosen shape.
Shield selection is one of the most important parts of a lash lift. Length alone does not decide the correct size. The eyelid, growth direction, desired finish and usable space on the shield all need to be considered.
Placing the lashes
The natural lashes are positioned carefully onto the shield. They should be separated and directed neatly so that they do not cross or become tangled.
This part can take time, particularly when lashes grow in different directions. It is worth doing properly. Untidy placement at the beginning will usually show in the finished result.
Processing the lift
The lifting and setting stages reshape the lashes. Processing times vary between systems and must always follow the instructions for the exact products being used.
A trained professional should continue checking the lashes rather than relying on one automatic timing for every client. More time does not mean more lift. Overprocessing can leave the lashes dry, frizzy or weakened.
Adding the tint
A tint is often included to deepen the colour and make the lashes look more defined. This is particularly noticeable on clients with fair or lighter ends.
The tint does not create extra lashes and it does not make them physically longer. It makes more of the natural lash visible, which can give the appearance of additional length and fullness.

- Very straight or resistant lashes may need a different treatment approach.

It can sometimes be completed in under an hour, but speed should never be the main measure of a good service. Processing must remain within the product instructions and placement should not be sacrificed to save a few minutes.
I would always choose a careful professional who protects the condition of the lashes over someone promising the fastest appointment in town. This is your eye area. Fast and furious belongs in the cinema.
How should you prepare for the appointment?
- Arrive without mascara or heavy eye makeup where possible.
- Avoid waterproof mascara before the appointment because it can be difficult to remove completely.
- Remove contact lenses if your professional or product instructions require it.
- Tell your lash professional about sensitivities, recent eye irritation and previous lash treatments.
- Complete any patch testing required for the products being used.
How long do the results last?
Most lash lifts remain visible for around six to eight weeks, gradually softening as lifted lashes shed and new untreated lashes grow through. The tint will usually fade before the lifted shape has completely grown out.
